History of Orthopaedic and Traumatology Education Program Faculty of Medicine Udayana University
In 1979, the Head of the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, dr. Ketut Budha, Sp.B-KBD appointed dr. As the first orthopaedic in Bali, he struggled to overcome various obstacles from outside and inside, to introduce the principles of Orthopaedics and to plant the seeds of Orthopaedic knowledge in Bali. Three years running into his service, this well-known idealist and admired figure left us forever in in 1982, the development continued. To maintain what has been started in Bali, Orthopaedic consultant from Surabaya periodically visit Sanglah Hospital to give lectures and health services in the field of Orthopaedics. Unlike the current conditions, at first, founding fathers were required to take night shift duties in emergency room to get cases of orthopaedics. In the process, the founders of Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology went to great lengths to prove Orthopaedic and Traumatology competence in handling cases in the musculoskeletal field including cases of acute musculoskeletal trauma, and that were ultimately achieved and appreciated by the hospital. Together, these leaders developed and championed the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Udayana University / Sanglah Hospital. On March 25, 2006, SMF Orthopaedics and Traumatology was born thanks to the struggles of the five founding figures. Then in January 2018, SMF Orthopaedics was transformed into the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology
Furthermore, dr. Putu Astawa, Sp.OT completed his post-graduate education in Sports Physiology and dr. K.G. Mulyadi Ridia, Sp.OT completed his education as a Spine Consultant. To further facilitate activities, with the permission of the Head of Sanglah Denpasar Hospital built the Smf Orthopaedic Secretariat Building and Traumatology Sanglah Denpasar Hospital. This development is a tangible manifestation of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology to develop themselves with a spirit of togetherness. Orthopaedic and Traumatology Study Program FK UNUD / RSUP Sanglah Denpasar was officially established on March 13, 2008 in accordance with the Decree of the Permit for the implementation of a new Study Program at Udayana University Number: 851/D/T/2008.
At the beginning of the establishment of the Orthopaedic and Traumatology Study Program of Udayana University, the education process is still in collaboration with Airlangga University and the University of Indonesia, so that some faculty take turns coming from outside the city to guide residents, in addition to several alumni consultants of these universities who have since the beginning devoted themselves to the advancement of Udayana University / Sanglah Hospital. Some consuls from abroad also often come to share knowledge as visiting professors, such as Prof. W.J. Cumming and Prof. Joe Ghabrial. In addition, residents are also sent to several networking hospitals on the island of Bali and abroad (Japan, Korea, and Australia) to sharpen their knowledge and expertise in the field of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
After being able to teach independently, Udayana University's Orthopaedic and Traumatology Study Program no longer needs to bring in teaching staff from other universities. Then, dr. I Wayan Subawa became the first prospective student to participate in the selection of admission to the Specialist Doctor Education Program Orthopaedic and Traumatology in 2008, although he later continued his education at the University of Indonesia. In 2008, dr. Henry Pebruanto finally became the first active resident after moving from Universitas Airlangga / Rsud Dr. Soetomo. Furthermore, in 2008, dr. K.G. Arta Bujangga, dr. Erwin Yulianto and dr. Broto Suwadji joined as participants in Orthopaedi and Traumatology Udayana University Study Program as transfer residents. In the same year, dr. After the efforts and dedication of the staff, in 2017 the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Udayana University managed to achieve accreditation A in a relatively fast period of time. Over time, development continues in various aspects until 2022.
