Social Health Service for Disaster Victims of Lombok Earthquake, Orthopaedic and Traumatology Department, Faculty of Medicine Udayana University
Sunday, August 5th 2018 at 18.45 (GMT+8) was the day when the 7.0 RS earthquake struck Lombok and East Nusa Tenggara, according to data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). According to data from Disaster Management National Bureau (BNPB), the Lombok earthquake in 2018 causing significant material losses, including destruction of 71.692 housing units, 671 educational facilities, 52 health facilities, 128 worship facilities and many other infrastructure. The disaster victims included: 460 peoples died, 7.733 were injured, 417.529 people were evacuated. Estimates of temporary losses carried out by BNPB due to the Lombok earthquake reached trillions.
The Orthopaedic and Traumatology Education Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK UNUD) together with the Indonesian Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (PABOI) especially in the Bali-Nusa Tenggara region, carried out a Social Health Service for the Disaster Victims of Lombok Earthquake. The Social Health Sevice was held in Lombok on August 10th 2018. The activity lasted for ten days until August 20th 2018 and was attended by members of PABOI Bali-Nusa Tenggara and students of the Orthopaedic and Traumatology Education Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.
This Social Health Service was caried by providing aid for medicines and medical equipment. In addition, there were also wound treatment, medication, and also orthopaedic surgery procedure for the earthquake victim as indicated. All of these activities were also accompanied by many other volunteers such as doctors, nurses, and the people around who were voluntary came to help each other. This Social Health Service can be said to run well, seen from the enthusiasm of all volunteers to take care of the victims. The enthusiasm of all volunteers in helping the victims of natural disasters reflects that there is still a high concern for others and hopefully it can be continue in the future.
