Community Service Cares for Victims of Karangasem Earthquake, Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department, Faculty of Medicine Udayana University

The Center for Metereology, Climatology, and Geophysics recorded an earthquake measuring 4.8 richter scale that hit the Karangasem region, Bali, on October 16, 2021. Earthquake shocks were not only felt in Karangasem, but also in other regions, including Denpasar, Karangasem, North Lombok, East Lombok, West Lombok, Central Lombok, and Mataram. Although it does not have the potential to cause tsunami waves, the earthquake that occurred has caused damage to a number of houses and fatalities buried by landslides in Karangasem Regency. In Rendang District, Pempatan Village a number of houses were severely damaged; In Kubu District (Ban Village, Daya Hamlet, Cegi, Glundungan, Darma Aji, and Manik Aji Hamlet) there are several houses damaged and residents injured due to building collapses. Overall in Karangasem Regency caused damage to 1.992 buildings, with estimated losses reaching Rp 6 billion. In Banjar Dinas Jatituhu, Ban Village, 3 year old child died due to being hit by the ruins of buildings.

            Orthopaedic and Traumatology Surgeons who are members of the Indonesian Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (PABOI), especially in the working areas of Bali and Nusa Tenggara (Bali-Nusra), along with the Orthopaedic and Traumatology Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine Udayana University (FK UNUD) and these graduates have a responsibility to help provide solutions for affected communities in the form of social services, which also fulfill one aspect of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. Community service activities of Social Service Caring for Victims of Karangasem Earthquake were held in Ban Village, Kubu Subdistrict, Karangasem Regency on Sunday, November 7 2021. The activity lasted for one day and was attended by members of PABOI Bali-Nusra, students of the Orthopaedic and Traumatology Study Program of FK UNUD, graduates of Orthopaedi Bali, and medical student of FK UNUD.

            The social service activities caring for victims of the Karangasem earthquake were carried out in the form of the delivery of building material assistance to be distributed in the Ban village, Kubu subdistrict, Karangasem regency. The group of participants and logistics transport started the Social Service event from the Ban Village Perbekel Office, Kubu, Karangasem. After the logistics truck arrived at the destination, the committee meet with local officials and volunteers to discuss the series of social service events that will be carried out. The activity begins with the filling out of a relief form for earthquake victims. The handover of building material was handed over symbolically to the local community. Then the distribution of zinc roof building materials assistance to several houses of comunity. Social service participants also had a lot of interaction with comunity through talking with victims affected by the earthquake. In its implementation, this Social Service still applies strict health protocols.
